A Very Rare Low/Pop Variety, these deserve recognition.

Jefferson Variety Nickel:

1955-D/S_5C_Overmintmark_FS-501_(FS-034)

This is a great example of a popular over-mintmark. The D mintmark was punched over a previously-punched 'S'. It is believed this was done after the decision was made to not produce nickels in San Francisco in 1955. The dies were actually re-punched with a Denver mint mark, and used there instead. This coin is absolutely beautiful.

This Jefferson (Variety 501) is the most prominent and desirable of several D/S varieties known for 1955-D nickels. There are (2) separate tables showing the populations of all these (10) Variety Types.

Ngc Grading Services has a Total Pop of (8) with only (3) being in the highest grade of MS65.

Pcgs Grading Services has only (4) Total Pop, of these Variety 501 Varieties, with only (2) in highest grade of MS65.

This is a great find for me being fortuate enough to own one of these 1955 D/S Jefferson Variety 501 Overmintmarked Nickels.

You can see photo(s) of it in my Ngc Registry/Jefferson Nickels 1938 to Date/ Jb4gpo/JGB's Jefferson Nickel Collection...
