Grading Standards

2 posts in this topic

What a difference between companies!!

This coin was graded MS 70 from SGS. It came back as an MS 62 from NGC. Keep in mind I did this as a test of standards for both companies and to learn some of the finer points myself. It is just a shock that there are people really off the mark grading coins at some places.

That is pretty extreme, I had an ANACS MS63 Walking Liberty Half come back from NGC as UNC Details/Cleaned. So I guess the big two are the big two for a reason. SGS and their ilk probably grade more coins MS70 than both PCGS and NGC combined.
