1839-O QE

This isn't a series that I readily collect, but the color doesn't look quite right on your coin. Additionally, I believe that it has been cleaned at some point in its history. I think the coin is a technical VF. Also note the rim damage.

These are the seller's photos... it may look different in hand. Definitely saw the rim damage.

Do you think VF-20?

1839 was the first year of the New Orleans mint for this series...

Naturally toned and problem-free examples can be expensive. They don't come up for sale or auction very often. You get what you can afford.

Thanks for your insight and comments, Michael... much appreciated.

Obviously she has a number of issues and is a far-from-perfect example.

I just like the era when the early branch mints were first coming online. Lots of history there!

The sellers photos are not good at all... I'll post other ones once I have her in hand in about a week.

Right now I'm estimating VF-20 for the grade. Any other estimates?

Thanks for the heads-up on pricing...

At $560, it looks like I paid "about" the market rate for the net F-15 grade.

She may look better or worse in hand. Will post photos later this week or over the weekend after she arrives.
