What happened to the date in this 1857 Flying Eagle Cent?

 

 

 

Does it affect the technical grade? What is the technical grade? Thanks!

It appears to me as a repunched date that was not fully repunched. IMHO, this is because the other three numbers appear from the photo to have been repunched. At that time, the mint used single number punches to punch the date in the die and could have forgotton to repunch the "1".

Yep, filled die at that point.

That looks like post-mint damage, no? Or more grease in the die?
