1837 Liberty Seated Dime (Small Date)

Given the pluses and minuses, I’d say it’s worth Fine to VF money. If the lettering on the reverse is as weak as it seems to be in the photo, the coin will be “hard sell” at the choice VF price levels. If the photo is distorting the look of the coin, I’d say it’s worth “typical" (VF-20) money.

 

That’s not to say that it isn’t a tough type coin. It’s much scarcer than its half dime counterpart. When I was finishing the first incantation of my type set 20 years ago, and was looking for an AU example of this type, I found the No Stars dime to be one of the most difficult pieces to locate.

I went to a coin show today and although I didn't ask them for an actual grade, two former professional graders gave this specimen the thumbs up--original surfaces! Made my day!
