I just bought this 1938-D Buffalo PCGS 67 and it looks like the the D is repunched but I cant find a picture of it in my Cherrypickers guide. 425732-1938%20d.jpg425733-1938%20d-d.jpg

Not from the variety that I know. On the D over D the second D is to the left of the first. There is a double line on the straight line side of the D.

chinook - Don't know how I missed this one! Attached is an example of the D/D that's most common. Not to say that several varieties don't exist, but the pic you show looks a little like machine doubling to me. Anyhow, Wexler's book Treasure Hunting Buffalo Nickels lists all the varieties (as far as I know). You can find a copy at Stanton Books.

I agree with Hoot, this doesn't appear to be any of the known varieties that are in the Buffalo Nickel book by Wexler. Keep looking though, new ones are still being found.

The lower serif looks curious. I'd try and determine what that is.
