I hope someone can help me figure this out. I have a reference book from 1885 which has a cover with a full Gilt design and Title on the Spine. How does one determine the value of the Gilt covering's when valuing the book ? The complete design is intact as well as the spine lettering . Any ideas?

Are you talking about the actual value of the gold? The gilt process places an infinitesimal amount of gold on the cover, and is hardly measurable at all.

I would not concern myself with the gilt, but quite likely the book may hold a potential value according to its author and contents. Please post a photo of the book with its binding and perhaps someone on the forum might be able to help you better.
