What's going on with the date in this 1952 Franklin?

I just noticed there is some doubling in the 2 in the date. Is this anything special?

 

I don't have a picture of the reverse yet but will post it when available.

The way the shadow is cast it appears the area adjacent the

2 is raised, therefore incused into the die. This could be nothing

more than a chip in the die...cool observation.

CONECA doesn't have anything listed for 1952. At first, I was thinking that it may be an RPD, but looking at the shape of it makes me want to think it is a die break. Note how it is slightly bowed rather than straight like that segment of the "2". It could be that the edge of the die broke away and filled with planchet metal.
