Found an AT coin in an NGC holder.....what next?

A fair question in general....in this case....there would be no way to remove the toning.....this is some thick nasty stuff and you would not be able to remove it without a chisel......

I am pretty sure of NGC wanted to conserve the coin they would contact me first before using NCS....but frankly I don't give 2 hoots about the coin. I bought it for $15 on Ebay so I could reimage and resell and one I saw it I know I would never have the heart to sell it to someone else because in my eyes it's AT.

If NGC sends it back with their seal of approval....which they could do......I still won't sell it. I would just through it in a box in the closet lol

I got a call from Rick Montegomery today and he left me a voice mail saying that the coin was cracked out, inspected thorougly and in NGC's expert opinion the toning is 100% authentic.

So....the experts have looked at it twice and blessed the coin....and I am not going to pretend to know more than the experts regardless of the fact that toned coin are my specialty. It must simply be a case of the coin having dead luster to begin with before it developed the toning, so no luster shows through the toning giving it a dark appearance in hand.

I can't say that I am completly convinced and I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable selling the coin simply becuase of my own reservations about what I see but I think NGC went above and beyond as I have come to expect in addressing my concerns and doing due deligence by reviewing the coin a second time.

In my opinion...that's why they're the best and why I will continue to utilize them to grade my coins....Thanks Scott, Rick, Dena :foryou:
