Called an "Uncle Tom" in this thread...called a less than classy name for a gay man in another.

It's not the first time I've ever been called by a perjoritive--it won't be the last. Neither really bothers me that much. It is more the hypocrisy of posters on this site complaining about it on the PCGS site.

......and I think winstonware owes you an apology!

The Uncle Tom one I can understand, did you post on the PCGS board and make your feelings known of 100% agree over there?

The Coindude quote in the "Which would you do?" thread...

He called the two that voted for the play "queer" but then in the same sentence said that if it was the right play he would have chose that as well. In turn calling himself "queer". I would consider that a friendly jab and not a name calling myself.

I have witnessed virtual beat down sessions ATS. I see no hypocracy here.

I don't expect you to agree with me. Just my 100% honest opinion.

Ray, the point is that the remarks were hurtful just the same. If we allow any member to make off-color remarks like that, then we are no better than those ATS.

Let's face it, how many of our members have we really had the chance to meet in person. How much can you honestly say that you know about any one of the other members, here?

Interesting read.

What surprises me is a couple of name callers on that board that seem to get away with it. I wonder if they will slow down with their comments now that they have rules.

I know I post there more than here by a long shot, but you find a lot of the same people and many of the same topics on both.

Maybe I'll have to spend more time here and on the open forum refuge.

Chris, I never said that the comment couldn't or shouldn't be considered hurtful. I just stated that I personaly would not have taken that instance as a hurtful remark. That is why I said that I didn't expect anyone to agree with me. I understand and respect that others don't feel the same as I on a variety of subjects.

I do have to note that you would never catch me saying anything quite like coindude said about anyone I have never met. I don't like to be offensive toward people I don't really know. I save those comments for people I really know. (I am really quite the smarta** to close friends lol)

I know very little about the other posters here. I have never met any of the posters here but I expect that to change over the course of time. I travel the country quite a bit and I always make it a point to visit with friends across the country that I have met on various message boards.

In fact one of the message boards that I am most active in had a great get together in March of '09. Some 25-30 of us booked a block of rooms at Disney resorts and had a grand old week. One of the best times I have had in my life.

I totally agree with those who said I was out of line. And, I did make an apology, and maybe you guys thought I was just saying that, but I was very sincere in that. My comments were meant in jest in the exact way that Bugmann stated above. It was more of a joke towards me and not meant to hurt anyone else in any way whatsoever. If I did hurt someone I do apologize. I have no problem with the way anyone wants to live their life.

Regardless whether I thought that joke was fun natured, which is the way it was meant to be, I should have thought before I posted about the feelings of others. And, if I offended anyone in any way, please, accept my apology as I don't know who or how many people I may have offended. If you have a grudge against me for this in any way, please feel free to PM me and I will make a direct apology because I want there to be no animosity between myself and anyone here on these boards.

I love it here, the people are great and I am truly sorry that I hurt anyone feelings here. My comments, which were fully intended as a joke, were directed at poking fun at myself.

No apology necessary on your part at all. Believe me, my mouth moves before I think at times and this is an example. Just because I'm poking fun at myself doesn't mean that I might not hurt others in the process. My wife can attest to the fact that my mouth usually works faster than my brain!

See ya at the TNA! :)

Did I miss something in this thread? I read through it twice. Exactly what name calling is going on? It's my experience that no one on this forum goes on personal attacks much less name calling. What's up!

Never mind, I don't participate in the forums ATS and most likely never will so I don't know exactly what the exchange was all about. I'm new, I don't know individual histories.

Bring it up to the NGC level gentlemen.

Coindude, although I called you out on what you said in the other thread, I was never offended by it. My response in that thread rips on you for being from Texas...all in good fun.

You have admitted that you should have thought before you hit "submit", and that is apology enough. The few "queer" friends that I have actually prefer that term to any "politically correct" one, although they are really weird

Sounds like a rant from somebody in management who's looking at the numbers or cost involved with the site verses the headaches or looking at the numbers overall . It's all about the money it's always the money like the guy in the movie casinos says at the end . That's right before the new owners took over and who built the pyramid junk bonds and big corporations and they wouldn't let guys like us near the places .So in 10 years what that plastic around your coin really worth

The difference is that PCGS is not attempting to deny anyone the right to say anything he might wish--merely the privilege of saying it on a site that they pay for.

These rules are not new. Everyone over there agreed to them when signing up. Everyone did the same thing when creating his account here. Yes, the wording of Mr. Willis's post is harsh. Yes, it is basically a statement of "My way or the highway". However, if posters had taken all of the earlier warnings to heart then the bluntness of his latest post would not have been necessary.

I very highly applaud the attempt to curtail the stuff that has been going on over there. My only hope is that it is actually carried out evenly this time rather then resulting in dismissals of the less deserving while the main scufflaws are ignored as has happened in the past.

I know exactly what it means and it’s the perfect metaphor. Where I come from/how I was raised/(however you want to say it) when someone makes a series of points that starts with “We make the rules and we don’t care what you have to say” and ends with “See rule 1 (we make the rules and we don’t care what you have to say),” the appropriate retort is not “thank you may I have another.” It’s not relevant if one agrees with points 2 & 5 or 3 & 7 or whatever. You stand by your people; you don’t thank the higher authority for coming down on your people…hence the Uncle Tom reference.

Amazing. Perhaps all posters there are "your people", but that isn't the case for everyone else. Your replies seem to assume that everyone who posts there wants or should want the same thing, which clearly isn't the case. And the fact that they feel differently than you do about the rules doesn't make their responses any less honest, sincere or valid. You should try to see things through other people's eyes and not just your own, but apparently you can't or wont. I give up.

I sure hope the folks currently involved in this thread can sort this all out as it seems to be headed down the wrong road. I like all the parties concerned so I hope folks can just agree to disagree and if someone was offended and someone wants to offer any appologies in private then that will be between those two individuals.

I haven't made a lot of comments about what's going on across the street....nor expressed my thoughts for those participating in the current round of threads over there. personally I don't like some of it but some of the people involved I really like so rather then throw gas on the fire I will walk away with my thoughts and comments in my pocket and focus on collecting.

I will still post over there and over here absent of any bannings.....

So the bell has sounded gentleman and the round is over....time to hang up the proverbial gloves :slapfight:

It is amazing that the "loyal subjects" part as become so much a part of the focus of PCGS. Their ego seems to be so fragile that they can never admit to a mistake or a different point of view.

And they are so ridged that they are unhappy about a posting in the U.S. coin section that covers a U.S. token or a medal. The place for those items I understand is in their “World and Ancient” forum. Given the fact that the two major U.S. token areas, hard times and civil war, are so linked to coinage and U.S. economic history, it's hard to understand the logic of that.

But, hey, like they say PCGS pays the bills so they set the rules. One wanders if PCGS turns their "loss leader" forum into a paying for service site, if those who pay the fees will have any influence over the rules. Somehow, given their attitude, I doubt it.

Thank you for not being obtuse.

Are PCGS forum members more like circus dogs rather than circus cats? They do as they are told rather than what they want?

I've always enjoyed your opinion(s) winstonware and today is no exception- whether I agree with you or not.

I’m sorry. Maybe I’m not understanding. Are you suggesting that PCGS hasn’t gone out of its way to ensure that only people who voice favorable opinions of PCGS post there? As far as cats and dogs go, I’m a forum member of PCGS, or at least I was. I honestly don’t know if I still have posting privileges there. I’ve never had any issue with people posting there. I’ve just never cared for the “thanks PCGS” posts after PCGS tells all the board members it’s their way or the highway.
