Looking at my WR Albums from the aspect of mechanical humidity entry means, it appears that when opened normally, the top cardboard layer lifts up away from the slides more than the bottom layer does. Simply put (IMHO), the construction of the album, when opened horizontally from the front cover, (and lifting pages) produces mechanical compression of the top cardboard and tension on the bottom cardboard (keeping it flat). This compression produces more entry opportunities and bellows action for gas and moisture on the top layer of each page.
