Question on Silver Eagles Sets

Its been awhile since I added anything to any of my sets or looked at what was out there...

 

Anyway, I looked at my registry to see what I was still needing and I noticed there were

 

2006

2006 W

2007

2007 W

2008

2008 W

 

Besides the obvious ""W" mint mark, whats the difference between these two coins?

 

Were they both offered from the mint? or did you just have to get lucky to get a special one???

The W mintmark coins were sold directly from the US Mint, but I think they had a premium of a few dollars extra built into them at the time of sale. They may have a different surface in that the W coins might be what the Mint is calling "burnished".
