1866-S No Motto $20 Liberty Type 1, NGC AU58

Early in 1866, before receiving the new dies from Philadelphia, the San Francisco mint made approximately 12,000 coins with the Type 1, No Motto dies. The rarest of the San Francisco minted Type 1 $20 Liberties, this coin is a key to the series. Usually found in much lower VF and XF grades, Trends price is $250,000. A beautiful specimen and very high end for the grade, we think the images really don't do justice to the coin. Out of the 143 times that NGC has certified this issue, there are only three coins (all mint state) that have graded any higher. PCGS has graded only one coin finer, and lists a recommended value of $120,000 for an AU55 to $300,000 for an MS60. If you like Type 1 $20 Liberties, this is a must-have piece. Please call for better images and information.
