Any Idea how APMEX Sets Their Prices?

1 post in this topic

Particularly Ikes?

I was looking through their stock of Eisenhower dollars, and many of them are over-priced given the median auction prices from Heritage for the last 6-12 months. In fact, a few of them are nearly listed for the PCGS online price.

But then there are two I found (1976-S Clad Type I and Silver) that are approximately at the auction prices, or slightly below when you consider the buyer's premiums on Heritage. In fact, there's an auction on Heritage that'll end in 2 hrs (from writing this) where the silver one's going for $30 -> $39 with premium (next bid will cost $42 with premium), but APMEX is selling for $40 ... just $1 more (at the moment).

So, any ideas here? Am I missing something on APMEX as to why these two particular coins are comparatively "cheap?" Or do they just have some sort of random number generator over there?

Oh ... and I've never actually bought from Heritage ... how much does their shipping charge usually run (sine APMEX will charge me $10 for those two coins).
