A surprising number of nautical pieces are out there (meaning Jackson hasn't gotten

them yet!), including some very nice works of art. I got carried away on Ebay and bought this

one sided strike of a Lord Nelson death medal of 1805 for its attractive design..

Apparently, this reverse shows "Bellona stepping over the sea towards war galleys" with

the Latin inscription "Himself the thunderbolt of war."

Pieces like that are why I spend all my time on the darkside these days. According to

Brown's British Historical Medals, there is a cliche (one sided strike) of the obverse of this

medal in copper gilt in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. That and the nice

design seemed like plenty enough reason to spend the big bucks ($77) on the reverse!

my two newest coins for my sailing ship-maritime collection......

 

my first ever coin from Bulgaria, and the third and final coin from a 3 coin sailing ship series from Andorra (I picked up the other 2 last year)

 

 

PS: would you recommend a dip to remove the "milk spots" from the Andorran coin or MS70 on a Q-tip?
