Recently I came upon a 1911 penny. I know they are common but check this out

This penny has a what looks like an alluminum ring arround it. Has anyone seen one like that before? How about its value does anyone know what its worth?

Being an old f*rt, I'll tell you this. When I was young in the 50's, one could go to Woolworth's(then called a 5 and dime store) and for a small fee in a machine you could get an encapsulated penny with your own inscription-Johnny loves Mary, etc.

Everyone I knew carried some special encapsulated penny in their pocket with some "special" writing on it. I have seen none of these for many years, but once they were commonplace.
