Anyone know about Brothel tokens?

19 posts in this topic

Cool token! I haven't seen this particular on before, but I once sold off a client's collection of about fifty tokens on eBay. I also have a collection stashed away, but don't have an example like yours. Thanks for sharing, and sorry I couldn't help.

Dooly, I don't think this is a brothel token. First of all, it was issued by a saloon. Being an ex-bartender, I can reasonably assume that the saying, "In and Out, No Round and Round" means that it was good for one drink only and not for a patron to buy drinks (on the house) for everyone.

The one token and keyring that I am familiar with (but not as a patron) comes from Mabel's Whorehouse in Las Vegas. The inscription on it reads, "Stolen from Mabel's Whorehouse - Where the customer always comes first."

That being said, yes, there is a collecting market for brothel tokens. Andy Hughes in Las Vegas occasionally has them on his site, www.nevadacasinochips.com. You might also find additional information (contacts, etc.) from the Casino Chip & Gaming Token Collectors Club.

A guy could get in trouble answering this thread.

Only if you're married. So, it doesn't affect me! But while we're on the subject, the most famous brothel of all was the Mustang Ranch outside of Reno, NV. Before it closed, it's stock was traded publicly.

Almost all brothel tokens are fantasies.

I used to have a large collection of them but traded them off since they didn't fit in with my other specialties. This one looks familiar but I'm not certain I've seen it.

Very few "brothel tokens" are actually what they pretend to be since most are modern, custom made pieces that were never meant for that or any trade aside from the collectibles market.

Poor Dooly, he's been saving them all these years for nothing.
