Dang....very sweet....for a white coin
Here we go again with the racial slurs....

That copper piece is cleaned and polished. I'm sure it would bag.

Just giving you a hard time, but I should have added a to that post.
I don't collect the modern stuff slabbed but I do have some modern gold in 69, bought at spot prices. So I guess to me it wouldn't be worth anything more to get a 70 (except if I planned to sell it). I have seen some other issues with relatively close pricing between 69 and 70, most notably the first spouse coins.
Collect what you like. I'm sure that I have paid at least a 50% premium for a one point grade increase before. I'm not sure that I could say any of them looked 50% better, at least based of technical grade. Hopefully they looked better based on eye appeal.

(the MS70 was only about 50% more than what the MS69 cost me).
Does it look 50% better?
I have the first six of this series raw. I bought them as a group when they were the only ones out yet. The plan was to finish the series but I haven't done it yet. With the price of silver these cost a good bit more now than when I bought the first ones.

A couple of trimes as I catch up with imaging my somewhat recent purchases. I also posted these in the guess the grade forum in case you want to play along.

I'm way behind taking pics and posting newps, but I did manage to take a couple. The first one I got from Pat Braddick. Below are his pictures and then mine. I could tell his were not color balanced but they were close enough to get a good idea about the coin.
The second coin is in a newer ANACS holder. This is the first and only new ANACS holder I have. They have really improved on the sturdyness of the holder and I like it. It's not quite as picture friendly as the first clearview holder, but it's not too bad. Again, the sellers pictures are followed by my pictures.
edit: It seems the boards have been made more unfriendly for inserting attached photos in the body of the post now. I guess I haven't tried it since all the new "improvements" were made.

(thumbs u yep straight into my Danscos .. not bad though for less than $10 including post i think.
You can rarely find a holed three cent silver for $10. And the quarter was free!

thanks everyone for comments on my newps
Randy, I like your new 1872. Do you mind teling us the grade?
It's in an old small ANACS holder graded AU58. The grade seems right to me as it does have just a bit of rub. I've been looking for something nice in the MS64 range but I have found this common date is a bit difficult to find.

Congrats on the Stella Shane. That should look good with your 1876-CC Double Dime and your 1870-S Half Dime. You still need an 1849 Double Eagle? I have one I'm thinking of selling.
I just can't believe no one commented on that before.

Mr Feld has been holding out on us other half dime collectors.
Of course, many of those are out of my price range.
That's a beautiful group and I am amazed by the 1840-O drapery and the 1863.

So, I sit down at my computer, click over to the forums, and I see 35 unread replies to the Post Your Most Recent Acquistion thread! I'm thinking "35, what the?" And then I see... James made a slew of purchases!
Very nice original coins James, crusty!
Yep, most people would just attach all of them in the same post, but James likes to keep his post count up.

Fine Line ...
You have a few Barber coins - and they're in your collection - so, like it or not
you're a Barber Collector - just not an active one.
Post away...
If I could change the Title to this Thread - I would !!
No, I'm a type collector who happens to have a few Barbers in the set. But either way I was just joking around. I've seen several of these threads titled like this and I was feeling left out.
I don't have any new ones handy right now so here is one I bought and posted a while back. ANACS MS62 in an older holder.
-
Hope other Barber collectors start posting ... please...
I own a few Barber coins but I'm not a Barber Collector, so I'm not allowed to post images to this thread. Maybe your title should have been more inclusive.

Thanks for the comments on my trime. I took the pictures in a hurry last night. When I compared them to the coin this morning I realized that in hand the more golden color seems to be more apparent than the purple that shows up in the pictures. The purple tint is there, just not as strong. Also the luster didn't show up well but there is plenty there for the assigned grade.
The 1854 is the second toughest of the type IIs and it's taken me a while to land on at my price level. The real bonus here is that the seller's images were a bit small and gray and I was the only bidder at his reasonably cheap opening bid. He mentioned that the coin had nice color but it seems no one else believed him.

Here's a little piece I picked up on ebay. The strike is very nice with full shield details, complete star outline and decent star detail on the reverse. Both sides have some clash marks and there is a small die crack around 5:00 on the reverse. It's in an older ANACS AU55 holder.

I like your picks better RGT. Please tell me they better represent the coin in hand.
Yes, the coin looks very much like my pics in hand. The color is even better though because you really can't see all of it in the shaded areas of my pic, especially on the reverse. I wasn't sure what to expect from the sellers pics but I was pretty sure it would look better in hand.

Those old PCI holders do indeed cause toning and more so on silver eagles. That certainly could be toning from the holder but most of the PCI holder toning that I have seen has had much tighter bands and stayed closer to the rims. The storage environment and history could play a big role too.
