Only 9/14 coins sent in were graded by NGC.
Yes, I've got a lot to learn about which coins to send in for grading. So far out of the 14 coins I have submitted to NGC, only 9 were graded; 5 returning in the infamous "body bag".Mind you, I got the opinion of 2 coin dealers, both of whom I've been buying from for 5 years, prior to submitting these coins. One was even encapsulated by another grading service.Oh well, I read that NGC is starting something new, like encapsulating "ungradable" coins, noting the problems(like "brushed"), and assigning details. We can even put them in our sets for 50% of the point value.I hope I have the story straight. I just know I paid the fee in August, when this new program starts in September.Maybe I can negotiate a 50% reduction on regrading fees?

60% in school used to be a D-!
As a neophyte to submitting coins for grading, I'm still discouraged. I've taken all of these coins to reputable dealers prior to submitting them. Well, some of the low points have been having my 1894 Morgan silver dollar returned with "obverse damage" as the notation. I, nor my numismatically inclined friends can identiffy this obverse damage. This coin was encapsulated by another major grading service. I have an NGC coin with a scratch in a holder. Isn't that damage? I wish the grader would have said WHERE the damage was, so I could learn something from the experience. I had 2 beautiful (in my opinion) $10 gold eagles rejected for improper cleaning. The dealer who sold me these coins would never have sold me a coin she thought was cleaned. Anyway, the high point was receiving a coin back with the lowest grade of the series. I am the proud owner of the lowest graded $5 proof gold eagle, pop 1/ no lower, a 1990P $5 gold eagle, PF 67 UCAM.It still is a pretty coin. The other 3 such coins I sent in came back in MS69.I have 28 coins pending. 11 have not been removed from mint packaging, and 3 have been encapsulated. I'll let you know how those turn out... Happy submitting everyone!!!
