I can no longer enter PCGS coins in the registry
#1 Jefferson complete setAdditionalRe: Letters from Mr. Salzburg on PCGS coins in the registryMy reply to Mr. Salzburg on this would be that there has been a dramatic increase in the number of graded coins by BOTH services. The possibility that there are more graded specimens for any particular coin now has probably increased across the board. This of course will decrease the value of any given coin. However all the coins existed prior to the increase in graded population. That is a risk anyone takes in assuming that the graded population of any certain coin TRULY represents the total available numbers of the coin. BOTH services continue to grade coins which will continue to affect the value if based upon the graded population only. A good example of this is modern Proof 70 coins. There were very small graded examples of many of these but as time goes on BOTH services are grading more and more of them. In actuality there are probably MANY more proof 70 examples out there that just simply have not been submitted.I still believe this move was not in the best interest of the coin collecting community.Sorry, I missed the announcement earlier about this.Well I guess it was bound to come to this, maybe business instead of a site to enjoy and share the coin collecting hobby. BTW, I do not like that PCGS limits only pcgs coins either and why I am a member of NGC and not PCGS. I even favored purchasing ngc coins because of it. I thought it was evident by accepting both services that NGC was providing a service dedicated to the HOBBY of coin collecting. However many coins are only available in one or the other holders. As I try to find and better the collection I cannot be limited to only NGC coins. The answer, convert PCGS to NGC holders?? Really? $$$$This has soured my feelings about the registry (and the hobby) to the point that I will probably quit the hobby and sell it all. I hate this because i really enjoyed it. It was something I started about 1996 to collect Jefferson nickels. I did it because I had a small collection as a kid with a paper route collecting them in the 60's! I always wanted the 1950 D but never afford one back then. In 1996 with the advent of eBay I saw one and bought it; like many things we always wanted growing up. Thus started the hobby for me over again from that point.Just my feeling...................disillusioned and sad.Fun while it lasted.nickelhead
