  1. Thank you, Paul. I just think that this would be a feature, especially for older collectors such as myself, who have had various sets through many years of collecting. This feature would provide historical visibility for all who have had notable sets over the years. I think that they should also have some recognition, just not all for the here and now.

The data is already in the servers, it just needs to be brought out and listed.

  2. The one thing that PCGS has that you have not done over here is on this site is historical #1 set listings by year in a format that is easy to access.. I am sure that you are aware of the feature ATS which shows all of the all time best sets that have been on top of that particular registry over its history.

You may not have the historical data for all the sets that have been in every registry contact since 2002 but you do have the data on all #1 winning sets for each of these years in each category of various set registries, including all Mint and Proof sets that have won awards and have attained first place in each of the preceding years since 2002.

Would you consider putting together an historical listing by category, of each top set in each registry since 2002? This would be a good historical reference and narrative of each collector who has had winning registry sets during this sites history. I believe that this would be a worthy project for you to undertake and many collectors would appreciate seeing their top sets listed in an historical listing perspective and format. Many of us have spent much time and money for winning sets with ave no visibility on this site. PCGS has a distinct marketing advantage in this area. Would you consider adding this feature to your site, please?

  3. There seemed to be a collector perception also that the Wells Fargo Hoard coins were graded rather liberally. I have looked at quite a few MS65/MS64, Wells Fargo coins, passed on them and thought that they were overgraded. This overgrading has been the issue with several other hoards as well.

As for the provenance of these coins, who knows? The most logical quess is that they were used for specie payment and either never left Wells Fargo vaults or were foreign coins bought back in the late 1960's. It could be as simple as an asset that off-book and was forgotten, kind of like the GSA dollars.

Big banks have proven again recently that they are only stingy with accounting for our money not their own assets.

  4. World Colonial, I think that you and Cladking are saying the same thing, i.e. South African vs. East German coins etc.. Your binary factor list does not include variables such as ability to be promoted, type set importance, absolute rarity, relative affordability, ability to be collectable, desirability, metal content, historical interest and other attributes which drive collector interest and coin price besides just profit potential. Most collectors whom I know, like to think that their coins will be worth more in the future but they are not really as much motivated by profit as by the quest of finding and owning those coins which they desire. This is not the same as profit motive and in fact, has little to do with it. Many coins such as the 1909-SVDB or 1931-S cents are price driven to a large extent by type demand, popularity and ease of promotion, certainly not scarcity.
