  1. Thank you...

The slab is pretty well scratched particularly a circular one just over Liberty's right knee. The reverse is killer.

The letters "Liberty" on her shield are soft and the lower lines blend in with the frame around the word. I broke out my 53x zoom zOibit viewer and now the AU-55 seems a bit harsh...but I got it at a good AU-55 price point. It will live happily in its case with it's other 19th century coins of folly.

  2.

Just picked this 20 cent piece at the Heritage Signature Auction Chicago.

This is item #4 in my 19th Century Obsolete Collection. I compared this piece against a couple of AU58's. I found the breast feathers on this coin to be much finer and little disturbances on Liberty's head plus much sharper and better definition of her robes. I am going to CAC this one.

  3. So you collect flight flown objects!!

Jeez, though I was born and raised in B'klyn NY, I've lived the last 25 years on the west coast of Florida.

A sister of a former colleague of mine worked for United Space Alliance. Her job (no kidding) was assembling the manifest of gear, personal items, etc that would be taken into orbit by the STS crew members. EVERYTHING she touched, flew in space. A few years ago, while the center was shut down to visitors due to the 9/11 attacked, she invited myself and my wife out to the facility for a special Family day gathering. Talk about access!. I spent half a day with Endeavor in its OPF hanger watching them change out the 3 main engines. I did a walk around and went over to mission control (it was empty) and plopped my butt in the Launch Director's chair. Next to the one in the Oval Office, that has to be the 2nd coolest chair in the US.

Sorry for being totally off topic here, I have some good pics I will put up so you can peruse. ...And no, I was not allowed to take any souvenirs.

The Franklin toning of both you and Bsowa's coins is fascinating. I'm still selling off my "junk" silver and other hobby supplies of years past. Now that my "job" is to watch my grandson while his parents work (Grandma helps too), Coin collecting will be my #1 hobby...both for the beauty and investment.

I deeply appreciate your help. I'm watching the HA & former Teletrade auctions as well as Ebay (after sifting through the frauds, counterfeits & junk) and taking notes on prices realized vs. census.

    Life gets no better...

  4. I appreciate your comments and guidance. Unfortunately those two are the only photos I have at this time. They will be prepared and photographed properly once I once I get my cotton gloved hands on it.

I looked over your Franklin collections...very impressive. The type set I surmise is your "life's work" and legacy. Next to my grandson & wife, #3 on my expenditure list is my collection. Just above food & health care.

  5. Thank you all for the warm welcome...Skyman & JP...thanks for pointing me over to Photobucket

I have a lot of catching up to do. A lot has changed since the yearly Yeoman Price Guide days. I like the superior grade Franklin niche as they have been ignored for many years, contain serious silver content, and are difficult to locate in the over MS/PR67 level.

I have a few (not photographed coins at NGC for grading and slabbing, but here is my first Franklin purchase an ANACS 1960 PR68 Franklin. It's in transit to my home at this time and I will have it repackaged in an NGC slab.

  6. Hello & Greetings...

40 years ago, I set aside my coin collection with the challenges of raising a family and building a career. This year I retired, am a new Grandpa and opened up the old collection. I have lots of old stuff to sell off and decided to focus on purchasing PF 67 and better Franklin Proofs for trade whilst I work on securing investment coins for the future. My first purchase as a NGC Collectors Society member is an ANACS certified PF68 1960 50 cent. I assume as a new member, I must pass certain "probationary period" before I can post photos.

I do plan to have it placed into a new NGC slab once I receive the coin.

Glad to be aboard and look forward to sharing on this board
