    2009 SAE Proof
First time posting...Love the topic...Great to be a society member.
I too am very disappointed that the mint will not be producing ASE proofs. I am completely in the dark as to how and why the US mint cannot have enough silver for these coins.
Maybe it?s our job as collectors to help the mint with their silver supply. Someone amongst us (society members) must have some sort of internal ?connection? with the US mint. Here?s what I propose we do:
? Collect all the scrap silver coins we can put our hands on.
? Sell the coins (silver) back to the mint at market rate.
? The US mint in turn will use our silver contribution to produce only 2009 SAE proofs.
? We as the original silver suppliers will be able to purchase from the mint the 2009 SAE proof.
Now, there is an assumption or two to be made. The mint will only produce a very limited quantity (very good for us as collectors!) and the cost will probably be slightly higher then in past years. But as collectors, we will be very happy and proud to own a very small quantity of 2009 SAE?s and probably willing to pay a bit more.
After writing this and re-reading once, I see absolutely no holes in this process. I know, we?re dealing with the US Government here, but let?s just take that out of the equation for now.
Happy collecting everyone and I have always enjoyed the journals that appear here on a daily basis.
    Hope you enjoyed mine!

    Journal Entery # 2
I've been a member for a short time, just about a year, but have been collecting on and off for many years. I too received my shipping confirmation today for my Lincoln coin and chronicles set. I know just how Amarillo feels.
So after reading "Happy Me" and "Why Do We Collect", it all made sense. To me anyway. I collect for many reasons. I tried to collect my thoughts and actually put the reasons in some sort of order. I couldn't. So here goes, in no particular order:
    1) - The feeling I got when I received the Lincoln chronicles shipping confirmation.
    2) - Knowing that I will have a coin set that will have a total mintage of only 50,000.
    3) - Remebering how my father would let me help him look through bank bags of pennies looking for key dates (that's where it started!).
    4) - Being awstruck when my dad's mint and proof sets were delivered from the mint. Beautiful coins! (here's where I probably got hooked!).
    5) - The coins...how can you not actually admire the beauty and workmanship.
    6) - Now having my dads collection and filling the holes he couldn't(it bothers me to this day to have a set in an album with "holes").
    7) - The chase to fill those holes.
    8) - The never ending passion that I can upgrade almost every coin I have.
...and hoping that my son will get the collecting bug.
I hear about the "investment" that coins have. I tried telling myself that same thing many years ago; "My collection will help me retire early!" Well, they will have to pry my collection from my dead hands. It's the last thing I will give up. Too many memories and just waaaaay too many great looking coins.
Hope Amarillo and I were not the only one's to receive the shipping confirmations today. Good luck everyone and it really doesn't matter why we collect. They're all good reasons.

    Is This a Good Percentage?
    Hi All
Time for another poll. I recently submitted 2 rolls (forty coins total) of 2010 Silver American Eagles to NGC for grading. Well, my scores are in!
    MS68 - 1
    MS69 - 35
    MS70 - 4
So, my MS70 score comes in at 10%. I feel very lucky that only one was graded less than MS69. Care to compare? I'm just curious to see how I match up to other submissions.
As always, happy collecting and don't forget to fill out your brackets. March Madness has arrived.
    Regards...John
