  1. Received this today sitting in an ANACS green and white label MS65 holder. Coin shows very nice crescent moon rainbow toning starting at the "L" in liberty and ending just to the side of the date "1976". The yellow, blue and green colors look much nicer in person than my current picture shows, and is evenly placed on both obverse and reverse of the coin. It does look like a substantial scratch near the base of Ike's bust, but that is actually on the holder and not the coin. The coin itself looks better than the PCGS type 2 Ike that I had recently purchased that was also graded as MS65.

Link to PCGS MS65 Ike from the last purchase

  2. lol, my niece (8 year old) did the exact same thing the other day when she got one in change from the local candy store. Those little moments are priceless. Due to all the attention I drew when I was born in Grand Rapids Michigan, most of my family hoarded tons of rolls of the bicentennial coins. Because of that I have about 20 rolls (each) of the Ike's, Kennedy's and Washingtons that are just sitting in common Ziploc bags. I also have the 3 coin silver proof set and the 3 coin silver mint set sitting in my safe that were given to my mother by President Gerald R. Ford the following afternoon that I was born. He gave the same sets to all 6 babys that were born that day at that hospitol. Somewhere my parents have the picture of him handing them to my mother, I have asked her to look for it so that I could get a scan of it, but, since she has moved a few times since that day, she cant seem to find it yet.
  3. Here's a couple additions that were random purchases while walking through an antique mall

Brothel Token (bought as a joke since my girlfriend uses the name of "MissKitty" on her game websites)

1891 O Morgan (unknown VAM), looks to be cleaned based on the remains near one section of the rim and around the date.

    Edited to add:

    Grime around date

    Grime around star near rim

    Image60.jpg

Grime at end of the word "Trust"

    Image59.jpg

Do not see "lumps" as noted for diagnostic for one of the possible VAM's

    Image58.jpg

Looks to be a Weak E, if I'm right this may be a Vam-3A1 (correct me if I'm wrong)

  4. I picked this up today for $12. Personally I think I did rather well on that deal, as I figure a grade anywhere from AU58 to at the highest MS62.

Obverse picture shows exactly how the coin looks in hand.

Reverse picture is a bit too dark and makes it hard to see the details in and around the ship, but I assure you, it truly looks fantastic and has the same overall appearance that the obverse picture shows.

Close up of the Date area while I was looking for signs to if it had been cleaned or not.

  5. While my newest is not as high grade as the others that have been shown as of lately by others. I do find it interesting that what looks like a rim knock (1 o'clock position when looking at the obverse), it truely isnt a knock at all, but instead it looks like the symbol that was stamped onto the edge had been struck overly hard.

Not bad for paying $25 for this coin. Yes it appears to be cleaned and if lucky VG to Fine grade, but its another well circulated bust half that can reside next to the 1832 Small letters, lettered edge O-103 I already have. I have actually grown an enjoyment in the well circulated examples of this type of Half Dollar coin as you can only guess about who may have handled the coin and what it was used as payment for during its circulation life. But, no way to find that information out.

Pictures below dont show as much detail as the coin actually has, I'm still readjusting the settings of the camera to work with the homemade camera stand I had made.

  6. Very nice coins everyone. Thank you for the wishes of a safe trip. I will definately make a post once I arrive. I know of two coin shops that are near where I will be living plus I'll be able to visit the Blue Mountian Numismatic Society since thats not far from where I will be staying. So that will be a bonus as I can list when they will be having shows and could possibly keep an eye out for things you all may be looking for.
