as far as loupes, schneider makes one for use with slides. However, most coins are about the same dimension as a photo slide and is highly corrected and precise. They come up on ebay from time to time and sell for 100-150.
I use a bausch and lomb triplet 10x which isn't ideal but gets the job done manly to look at the high points of the coin devices to check the strike.

Couldn't have said it better about HSN. I'm surprised that they haven't been investigated as far as their coin sales. My stepmother kept buying silver Eagles on there for Christmas for me. I kept telling my Dad to get her just to go to the mint site or call them.. and it will saved her a bundle. NO go.. still sucked in by their sales pitch. Disgusting. It's the vulnerable and uneducated who fall for there pitch. Those Eagles were either electroplated with gold or silk screen or whatever with some cheesy picture. They are only worth bullion value or maybe even scrap value. What a racket.

I just wanted to say that I'm appreciative to some of super tooth's posts here regarding grading etc. I have Halperin's guide as well as the PCGS grading manual, though I never sent in their submission form. Does NGC have a similar grading guide?
