  1. Buying 80 S Morgans seems to be my lucky niche.Last year I got one for $30 that graded out MS64 DPL.This time, I bought this one for $29.00. It turns out after almost reselling it unattrinuted I find it is a rally nice VAM 11, 1880 S, 8 over 9.One of these in MS 64 sold for $120.00 on Ebay yesterday.

The pictures make it look at least a grade lower than the definite MS 65 it is.The luster is really great on this one.Nice and frosty too. It does have those spots on the rim though. The couple of "rubs" you see are really exaggerated in the photos.. I'm going to have to re-open my NGC account. I had another one of these in 64 ungraded that I let go for a pittance.I can't keep doing that. I sure like finding these though.

  2. Prudden! Glorious PU indeed, in my opinion looks PL to me. The frost devices contrasted over gleaming fields??, reverse doesn't quite match the glory of the OB, but a solid strike with considerable luster. Nice presentation of an old favorite of mine. I have a goal to recover that coin one day, to redeem a past saddness when all I had was that coin:( and HAD to sell it to stay afloat. There are actually a few gems I want back in my collection.

    Thanks for sharing :headbang:

You aren't saying thiis Morgan belonged to you at one time?No way!! I think it's one of the nicest MS 66's I've seen. The seller had three or four other MS 66 Morgans at auction tonight as well. This 81S was the best of the group. Now I can sell my PCGS 65,hopefully for a small profit.

No Way am I saying this specific coin. I just bought my first MS 65 coin tuesday this week.

But I had this coin and other Morgans that I sold in 1979/80 at a low point in my life. I coin was raw and perhaps AU 58 to MS 61 from Littleton coin investment co. I think this was before the Morgan dropped in price.

    Just a little sentimental reflection that's a'll.

I get it. I went through the same thing around the same time.Sold my 16D Merc dime and a 1890's $5 gold piece in MS65 and most of the rest of my collection. Wish I could have held on to more.

  3. Here's one I just won today!!Cheap too.

    Very nice looking coin !

I am very much still learning about everything since recently coming into a few hundred of these Morgans.

..Question , ..I had pretty much determined that the one's that I have that had potential for grading (best condition) were the one's where there was not much , if any , wear toward the top of the hair area and had a great deal of detail. However , it seems that this one has some wear in this area and still received a 66! Don't get me wrong. This looks like great news , however , am I missing something important ?

    Thank you !

    Brian ~

    Hey Brian,

Whatever you are seeing,it sure isn't any kind of wear from handling. There may be a few rub marks from the coin contacting other coins. Can you be more specific as to what you are looking at? Here are even closer shots. of the coin.

  5. I wish I knew more about the set. I bought it a couple of years ago just as you see it here. I think it is obvious from the state of preservation that the set was maintained by a collector and passed on to future generations of serious collectors. Hard to imagine that it survived all these years without someone polishing the "tarnish" off at the same time they were cleaning the silver tea service? :D

Here is the complete c/n/s set.......... Sorry no gold (very sorry!)

Wow.Perfect set with a. all the "extra" types. So,what would a set like this be worth? And I imagine it would be very difficult to improbable to put together today considering how closely matched they are.

  6. Nice Morgans there Prudden! Nice Comm there Fishfinder

Thanks. The 86 is a little baggy but that color is what got me.I went to the Sarasota coin show a couple weeks ago and couldn't find anything with color!!Not very many DMPL's either Don't think I need to comment on the 04-O.Except to say,I think it's going for grading in a week or so.

All the rest of you guys coins are fantastic too.

  7. I don't see anything that would keep it from crossing but then again....who cares about the plastic on a coin like that (thumbs u

Absolutely. This is actually my first Slabbed MS 66.Whoo hoo!! I've got a raw 81 S just as nice or better that wouldn't slab because NGC thinks it's been cleaned. I can't see how. Dipped? I don't know.

Anway, you said you thought something is "off" with this 82S. I have been comparing my 82's's. actually have four 82's,four 81's's and three 80's's. And, the 82 S has a very pronounced cheek area compared to my 81s's and 80 S's. It';s pretty much the same on all four of them. Maybe that's it? Or something else? See ya

  8. Ohh.Now that's color krypton!!! My 82S certainly is what they call a blazer. It's very white, but it's not exactly like the pictures(close though). You should have seen the previous pics. They made it look yellowish. I added an extra lamp and got these. My camera is just a $150.00 Canon Digital w/decent macro. If I knew anything about photography I'm sure I could do better.

  9. Here's my latest Morgan. I already have a couple of nice Raw 82S's but I took a stab at this one on Fleabay. It was sitting at $51 all day and didn't close 'til 1:30 a.m. Final Price?

$142.50 Free shipping. It arrived today. And I'll eat my hat if it doesn't cross at 66. Haven't decided to cross it.I think i should get a few opinions first. I came with a cool presentation case that fits the slab exactly.Nice.

  10. Unless I'm missing something under the toning, it's at least a 64. I submitted 3 or 4 similarly toned for grading. None of them got a star, and one came back in a BB for AT. The BB reverse looked much like yours.

    Nice Morgan!

    Chris

Please noooo. AT would be bad. Almost as bad as the "artificial color" I got on my Indian cent. I still can't understand how it was done.
