  1. That is a pretty rightous looking 1950 proof. The obverse looks like it could have been borderline cameo. NGC is pretty tight on Cameo Designations, but that looks like a sweet coin.

I still need the 1950 and the 1951. I promise to post my 1952 when it comes back from NGC.

For a fun little game, let me give you the facts of the 1952 I sent in and hear some guesses from the masses. My submission was a crackout: I purchased the coin on EBAY. It was slabbed as a PF 68 Deep Cameo by PCI. It is truly a beautiful coin, but I am trying not to get my hopes up on the grade. I will say this: My 1954 is PF 66 Cameo, and I think that the PCI crackout was very similar.

Any guess on the grade upon return? Does anyone think I should have left the coin in the slab or is cracking these out the way to go.

By the by, PCI slabs are pretty tough to crack open. Almost skewered my hand in the process.

  2. I would like to hear from anyone who has had a good experience with some coin inventory software. The ones I see on EBAY have links to PCGS prices, etc. I would like to hear from NGC folks on what software works best for NGC slabbed coins and collections in general. I have accumulated way too many coins, prrof sets, etc., and need some inventory software for insurance purposes.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to reply,

  3. Hello friends, Bourbon Trailer back. I will figure out the pictures tonight, but I thought I'd make my Christmas wish in early May. My next acquisition will be a MSxx 1932-D Washington Quarter. It has taken me 12.5 years of saving and cracking coins from slabs, but I have finally managed to get my Washington set completely in BU. The Dansco folder is complete, with proofs. Unfortunately, the 1932-D is driving me nuts. I am a true completist collector. I purchased a 1932-D on Ebay, paid some pretty high coin, and I am pretty sure that someone has been playing with their alchemist set. It has some toning that does not pass my smell test for natural. If I post her, can you boys give a peek and see what you think?

Thank you. You seem like a freindly and supportive bunch.

  4. Good Day, New friends. I am a life-long collector but new to NGC. This is my first post ever, so forgive any bad manners. I have been lurking for awhile but may not have figured out the proper protocol.

My wife and cats don't really cotton to coins, so when I got my first coins back from NGC I had nobody to share my celebration. The submission was a 5 set unopened box of 2006 20th anniversary american eagle 3-coin sets. I know, Eagles should be bullion -- but for some odd reason collectors seem to pay top dollar for perfect set.

    Here was the result:

    2006 W: 3 at MS70, 2 at MS69

    2006 Reverse Proof: 4 at PF70, 1 at PF69

    2006 Proof: 3 at PF70, 2 at PF69

If the population report is correct, I lucked out. And I was late getting my original coins from the mint. They arrived in late December.

Anyway, I don't understand the extreme fascination with American Eagles, save their beauty -- but as an economist I cannot ignore the fact that they seem to be fairly safe buys from the mint every year.

    So long for now, comrades.
