NGC ponts matter, just like size

CaptBrian's recent post of last week bemoaning his drop in the points ranking, has finally moved me to action. The Capt's post hit home as I also was equally frustrated by my fallout in ranking (from 704 to 728 in a matter of days with my paltry 107,000 ponts). What to do, oh what to do ? Ahh, I got it !!!, post my modern gold commemeratives to the NGC Registry. Modern coins have never really been coins to me, rather, I consider them simply created rarities to satisfy collectors. However, in 2005 I began aquiring modern gold commems as I believed gold undervalued, and, being a coin collector decided to hedge inflation and take a position in gold by purchasing these coins. I also noted that the Unc's were minted in lower quantity in most cases than the proofs so thought this the proper move. By adding my 16 fabricated rarity modern Unc gold coins I popped a Registry move up 137 notches to 591 in the ranking and 130,801 ponts. Ding ding ding !!!! However, sadly, as I review this change in ranking and compare it to market value of the coins, I am more than ever convinced that the points are far too skewed to the modern material and totally out of line with numismatic market value. My collecting focus has always been US classic coins, ( primarily Indian Cents, Flying Eagles, 2 Cent pieces, 3 cent silver and half dimes)so these were the only coins I posted to the registry. In fact my 1909-S MS65RB Indian Cent was the most current of any coin in the Somerville Set. Going forward my ranking will most certainly fall again as I will at the proper time ( the next gold run up ?? )sell off the modern pieces, take profits and re-invest in classic coins, with a MS 1795 Half Disme the most recent focus of my numismatic cravings.

Good collecting to all !!! Cheers !!
