You can't use E Bay as an accurate barometer for the FMV of a coin..

After 10 years of using EBay as both buyer and seller, there are a few tidbits of insight that have registered with me on how to utilize the forum to my benefit.

First, most Ebayers who use it to buy coins are not anything but monkey-see-monkey do collectors with no understanding. they just know that the particular coin is getting stupid money, so it must be worth owning. The smart sellers capitalizing on this mob mentality start competing wirh one another to get some of the stupid money from the stupid people who just got to have one of those damn whatever it is this week that's getting stupid money.

There isn't one coin in the last 3 years with the exception of the 2008 W Proof Buff's that can't be had for way less than when it first caused its release frenzy. The High Relief Double Eagle is another. I just wait for the big boys who unload hundreds of graded specimens a week, to decide they need to get rid of their deadwood that no one wants anymore. There's plenty of it too...

I sell what people want.. to buy what I know is worth owning. So many times, when the attention is on the latest craze that's got everyone's eye, there's a coin that's worth having that is going to go begging and I take advantage of that. E Buyers are getting smarter now. They know finally just how badly they've been fleeced over the last few years on sites like EBay, by opportunistic sellers. I wait for after the insufficiently_thoughtful_persons have been taken advantage of and the demand has waned.. if you do too, you'll never have to feel impacted or affected by the dynamics of E Bay's flakey customer base. Trust me.. Wait it out....The riff-raff is not worth getting upset about. Unless you just gotta have it NOW....
