Just added two coins to my Jefferson collection.

My search has ended now I have two of the Jefferson's that are in the . The first one I found is Rank #44 and #15 100 Greatest U. S. Modern Coins; 1st Ed. 1994 P 5 cent Jefferson nickel Matte "Special Uncirculated" NGC SP 69.

In 1993 Thomas Jefferson was honored with a commemorative silver dollar for the 250th Anniversary of his birth. The US Mint issued a special Thomas Jefferson Coin and Currency set that included an uncirculated 1993 P Jefferson 250th Anniversary silver dollar, a Series 1976 $2 Federal Reserve Note and an Uncirculated 1994 P Jefferson nickel. What made this set so special, the US Mint struck a special presentation coin for inclusion with the set: a nickel with a special matte finish. The matte finish had not been used on any nickel since 1916. In fact, it had not been used on any U. S. coin since 1922! Matte-finish coins are made for presentation purposes, and often these coins will receive multiple blows from coinage dies so as to show their detail more crisply. These coins have the full steps!! Because of the inclusion of the matte-finish Jefferson nickel, Coin and Currency Set was a big seller. 167,703 were sold and the only way to get one of these special matte-finish nickels was to buy the set. They were not sold any other way. Because of this, 100 Greatest U. S. Modern Coins ranks this #44

Rank # 15 in 100 Greatest U. S. Modern Coins; 1st Ed. NGC SP 69! Full Steps Blast White!!! The only way to get one of these special matte-finish nickel was in the 1997 Botanic Garden Coin & Currency Set and only around 25,000 were sold!

Some day maybe I will have more to add to this collection.

Happy Collecting,

Ed
