1799 coin located. Original owner did not know if it was real or fake. For the $$$, friendship and future purchases; the coin became mine.

A consignment shop owner, who I have know for nearly twenty years, had a series of old coins for sale. Since I am new at coin collecting he started to talk about a coin that his late father had, dating 1799.

Being new and excited to own an old coin, I was eager to have it, so I did. Before the final sell, my friend was adiment that the coin, which was in an old dried-up plastic protective sleeve, may be a fake. So, buyer beware!!

I purchased the 1799 Heraldic Eagle Reverse (page 212, Red book)coin and justified the purchase and the money spent on it by thinking it would be a great lesson and example of how reacting on impulse buying,is not a good idea.

Educating people in my previous adventure was a highlight of my work. So, continuing educational news can be done in coin collection now, as well. Besides, during this time of year, helping an old friend to get a few extra dollars for the holiday is good, too.

I took the coin to Bill at the Coin Market Inc, store, located in Wilmington, N.C. I told him the story of how and why I purchased the coin. He is very knowledgeable, NGC credited and eager to help newbies, when it comes to learning the art of coin collecting.

It took him less then three seconds to confirm that the 1799 H. Eagle Rev. coin was a fake. Showing me a real 1799 coin I too, saw the immediate difference.

In researching for new land property, location, location, location is the golden rule. In coin collecting it is and rightly so: know your stuff, do not buy on impulse and try to buy your quality coins from a certified seller. Then the price and final results will be good.

My 1799 coin is well displayed on one of my shelves. A story to tell my grandchildren, each time they ask about how I got a old 1799, piece of history, coin.

Best wishes,

Jack
