Opening(and Closing?) Day for the 25th Anniversary Sets

Just like the 2006 20th Anniv Sets, "Gone in the blink of an eye!"

I've recommended to readers at times in my posts about the 1st Day of Issue problem with New Coins & Sets. The Mint always gets bogged down and their system just plain "Crashes" at the opening of a "Hot Item". It's happened time, and time again. But with perseverance- You won?t get ?Shut-Out? of a Sale completely.

Today(Thursday), those of us who were able to buy anything within the 1st 45 minutes, were just plain Lucky. An hour to an Hour/20 into it usually gets you something. Most times, if you tried to refresh the page- YOU LOST it all, and most times even got yourself Logged Out! You've gotta' hang in there and wait the page out. Through experience and past losses I?ve learned that- Once you?re Logged-On to your account, the best way for me has been to open more than one window/tab to Your Order, Shopping Cart, or Checkout page, one of them Will get you through!

My Dear Fellow Collectors, (UH-OH- HERE IT COMES) Each and Every time a limited production coin or set comes out, those Stinkers at the Mint impose a bunch special rules and Order Limits on us, and then they screw everything up with insufficient online access, or not enough phone lines or manpower to handle the sheer numbers of hungry customers/collectors. It was just as bad at the Opening of the 20th Anniversary Silver/Gold Sets in 2006.

Now after enduring all the aforementioned indignities, here?s where you get your Other eye poked-out, when Next week- the Coin-Vault show and other TV hawkers start selling our Silver Anniversary Sets, with Plenty on hand mind you, for around 750 to 1000 Bucks-a-Pop! Now, How did that happen, and Which Gov't employee was tasked with the oversight of the 10 to 20,000 sets probably allocated to these Private Pre-Sale Purchase Agreement Sessions? 100,000 Sets- More like 50-60K for us! Then, "I could be wrong!"

Earlier, one of the member Journals reported that the Sets were Sold Out, he was "Right on the money"! The Mint seemed to still be accepting orders at the time that I posted this little rant of mine(around 5:30pm), however it has reported that later orders are going to filled on an "as available" basis. SOLD OUT in 4? Hours?-it was expected! The link below will take you the article.

The US Mint Sales Dept. probably has some of the best sales software available, certainly able to track quantities sold of any item. And with all of that, it is Still guaranteed that sometime during the next couple to 3 weeks, some of us with Confirmed Orders will get one of those ?SORRY, BUT . .? E-mails from them because Our Sets somehow managed to get Over-Sold! Ain?t that a kick in knee-caps! Maybe they'll take a few thousand back from the TV dealers! Ohh, Those silly Mint-Guys!

Good Luck, and Stay Thirsty My Friends!

Gino
