The Eye Appeal said "You Can Do Better"!

Sometime around 2000, I completed a 24 coin Peace Dollar collection, but just didn't like the "look". So, a couple of years later, I sold the set, keeping 5 coins. 2 of those five were purchased in 1976/77. The other 3 were added from 1996-98.

The Peace Dollars were/are not an overwhelmingly popular set, and I was clearly not enthused about my collection of these large silver discs. However, I found myself constantly being drawn to these coins.

By 2003, I had added 5 more to my collection.

From 2005 to 08, 9 more were in my posession.

And, last week (3/25/11), I snatched up one more.

Only 4 to go, and I will have reconstructed the set; this time with the quality I want!

The grade #'s on the slab aren't the tops, but the coins inside "ace" the SMILE TEST!

My March, 2011 addition is a 1927-D. It's been a long search to find the "right" one. I've sorted thriugh a lot of 27-D's, but they just didn't have "my" look; or didn't fit my budget. This one meets both of those qualifiers, plus it fits nicely with the other coins in the set.

Another aspect of this purchase is the fact that it is my first coin purchase in 18 months. The combination of an expensive home renovation- NO COIN BUDGET- and a temporary loss of numismatic enthusiasm has created a year and a half hiatus in adding to the collection.

Looking at the '27-D, I'm convinced that it is a good selection to comprise the "breakout" from my personal buying drought!
