For a Pedigree Type Set

I was at home last night reading "The Coin Collector's Survival Manual" by Scott A Travers and I got a fun idea for a custom set. As with anything, we reap the benefits of the work done by those before us. Many of the coins we enjoy today were once upon a time ago protected by someone else.

We have all read about the giants of Numismatics, such as Louis E Eliasberg, Edward H.R. Green, etc. I thought it would be fun to find and collect a type set made up of coins with those pedigrees.

The only problem is, where to find these coins. Unfortunately, NGC can only certify them with the pedigree if the owner can prove a clear chain of custody. I searched EBay last night and could only find coins from the Binion Hoard. I would imagine that most of these coins would be found in auctions such as Heritage, Bowers and Merena, Stacks, etc.

Any thoughts or suggestions about different places to look?

As always, here's to shiny metal disks in your mailbox!
