Getting started

I started coin collecting in 1961. I was Three.

I would save every shiny penny, nickel, dime, quarter and half that I could lay my hands on that was mine of course. I saved my allowance, and put the different years away. over the years my franklins were stolen by the Avon ladies kid. Most of the shiny pennies now have turned. Album toning! My '52-D Franklin is done in by this, I am sure I will get a (Cleaned designation)

Most of my collection until 1978 consisted of coins that were taken out of circulation.

There were a few coins that I had that were notable.

A 1955 DDO that was given to me by my dad. He told me it looked blurry and that he did not want it. I took it, but made the mistake of buying a piece of gum with the (OTHER) penny that I had and did not buy my sister one. Well, she threw a fit, and I had to spend it for her one too! I told my mom that it was a very expensive penny, but she did not believe me!

I was given a couple of peace dollars, both came back Cleaned, by NGC, though I never had touched them since I had them. They had album toning on the rim! But they see it as cleaned! HMMMM

I have a rare Standing Liberty 25 cent piece with the no stars under the eagle, but no date on it. In 1974 I bought an 1892-S Morgan, from some kids at school that were rolling it around. Thinking that it was the '93-S for the mintage quantity, I bought the coin for 20 dollars. I was bummed to find out that I missed the year by one! but, I still have that coin. It cost me 30 hours of my pay at the time. I missed out on a 1836 Reeded edge half for 1500 dollars. I was afraid that it could be fake, so I passed. I had no to way to authenticate it.

And just tonight I picked up a 1852 3cent silver AU 45-50 kinda nice!Turned out the coin was badly scratched, I returned it! Most of the collection is ungraded, and probably just as well. I would probably faint if I knew how much I would have to spend to have all my coins graded, I wonder if they would give bulk discounts? lol!

My newest additions to the registry soon will be a 1910 lincoln cent Rd, I hope they see it that way,Nope, Altered color! a 1928 lincoln cent Bn but in bright light it shows red, I wonder what it will get? 62 bn

A 1981-s Type 2 quarter, Gosh I hope for a 70 on this one!

An 1880-s Morgan. I will get probably a 63 on this one unless they find something wrong with it!

My newest purchases are three 1970-s rpms still in the mint pack!I did get a 64 rd on one

I just recieved a 1946S/S dime for 2.50 can't beat that! And I am sending in a 1934 RD Lincoln. This coin has special meaning as it is the year of my mom's birth! this turned out to get a 65 rd.

I did miss out on the Twenty fifth anniversary silver eagles. The mint kept me on the list until just recently, and then cancelled the order. They really blew this one!

I am concentrating on my Lincolns, and buying or having graded MS-67 cents in the early years that I can afford, and then go higher in the later years. I know that it is a great undrtaking however, It will be an accomplishment for me.
