I believe the 2010 platinum coins sold out because the mint is starving the public with the lack of minting decent collectable coins. Why should we buy a 2010 Platinum coin which has a total population of 10,000.00? You can buy the 2006, 2007 or 2008 Platinums with a much lower population.
The 2006 through 2008 platinum coins have a total mintage of less than 25% in comparison to the 2010 proof edition.
Is the public following hype or basicly not doing their homework?
The total population for the burnished edition is as follows.
Date 1 oz. 1/2 oz. 1/4 oz. 1/10 oz.
2006 3,068 2,577 2,676 3,544
2007 4,177 3,635 3,690 5,556
2008 2,876 2,253 2,481 3,706
When I check the NGC cences for MS70 I found the lower population.
2006 1 oz - 674 1/2 oz - 675 1/4 oz - 695 1/10 oz - 1110
2007 1 oz - 735 1/2 oz - 731 1/4 oz - 793 1/10 oz - 1243
2008 1 oz - 835 1/2 oz - 576 1/4 oz - 625 1/10 oz - 905
If your looking for a rare gem I suggest you look for the complete set 2006 through 2008.
It's a shame that the US mint cannot release coins that really tempt the puyblic to collect. I guess the investor is running the show. Because the US mint will not mint the Silver or gold proof or burnised coins.
So the us mint will have turn lower profits again because they will continue to mint the bullion edition
