The Shoreline Collection

Sometimes it is worth it to buy coins raw.

As I looked through my collection for some coins to send into NGC for grading I decided to send in some raw gold...

I sent in a 1913 Quarter Eagle, A type three $1 dollar, A 1913 Half Eagle and two 1oz Buffalo. After I carefully put each coin into 2x2 flips then wrapped them safe for their trip, I knew I would have to wait to find out how the coins grade.

Four of the five coins graded how I expected them to and one really caught me sleeping.

I was not expecting the half eagle to come back MS-64. I had dismissed the coin as a nice full strike 63. When I saw that it was Graded a 64 I was so happy. I thought about the coin and I started to think it was just one bag mark away from a 65 or maybe a 66. (Maybe the next group will have a MS 65 half eagle). I also thought will this change how I see the coin or will it still be a nice full strike 63 when I look at it.

This also furthers my point that Indian head quarter and half eagles are very hard coins to grade.

(Pictures to come. I will be photographing all my coins at some point before July.)
