Just wrote a controversial journal comparing NGC to PCGS a couple days ago. Today I received an MS70 Silver Eagle should be an MS68 at best. See for yourself

I have always respected NGC although my preference has tilted towards PCGS as of late. I figured I would add the 2010 25th anniversary ASE to my complete eagles set, as in all eagles it is far from complete and my MS ASE set. You can imagine the sour taste left in my mouth when my son who has just recently started to show an interest in collecting pointed out the gash in my new coin. "How can this be a 70", was the first thing out of his mouth. He easily showed me what he was talking about. There is a very noticeable gash below the hand along with small strike marks on the reverse in the wing area. You know those small shiny specks we've all seen on lesser graded coins. What makes things worse is that three out of the last five 70 grade NGC coins I received this week alone had noticeable defects. Including two presidential proofs from the 2010 set as I also want to keep adding to my registry set, the worst being on the Lincoln coin, ARGGGH. I can't keep these coins, I am now left with selling them to the next person who will end up with a below average coin/s. This just emphasizes the discrepancy I have seen recently between NGC and PCGS. I just don't have these types of defects on 70 graded PCGS coins. At this point I don't know what else to say but if at all possible purchase a coin you can first inspect because as of late it is becoming harder to trust what you see on the holder. VERY VERY DISSAPOINTING TO SAY THE LEAST!!!
