Response to someone complaining about PCGS coins allowed in NGC registry.

I hope I don't upset too many people with my response as I own a substantial NGC collection but as Numismedia states that it is strictly for NGC graded coins so does PCGS state that their values are strictly for PCGS graded coins. I do respect Ngc for accepting PCGS coins and someday maybe PCGS will do the same or do most people think they should completely isolate each other? The person I'm reponding to went on about how much more value the NGC coins retained over their PCGS counterparts!

I couldn't disagree more. I started collecting at age 8. I am now 42, several years ago I decided that I would only collect graded coins. I went with NGC, it wasn't long before I realized that when buying modern coins freshly graded the PCGS almost always were clearly better quality. Then when some time would pass the same coin would double in value or more as PCGS and only increase a percentage if NGC. Clearly as an investment went, the profits are substantialy greater when dealing with PCGS as it seems most can see that PCGS grades stricter and it is easily seen when comparing side by side. As for any other grader such as ANACS, ICG, or any other third party forget it. I won't touch that stuff. When buying for friends or family that want something good but can't afford the best I will buy NGC. When it comes to myself I will only grab PCGS except on that rare occasion that I may not afford the best and have to settle for the NGC counterpart. As for allowing them to participate I can see why NGC does and PCGS doesn't. It's like trying to sell an NGC coin at PCGS value it just doesn't work, as 99% of the time the PCGS numbers are rarer / scarcer and much more valuable since they grade stricter. On the other hand you can be sure that if it graded a 70 at PCGS it will do so at NGC which can't be said the other way around. Use the 1995 W silver eagle as an example NGC found 100+ PR70's PCGS only found 2. Look at the entire ASE MS series and notice how many MS70's NGC has issued on a yearly basis and how many MS70's were found by PCGS. This is a great example of the grading practices of each company. Even as recently as 2007 (no W) PCGS only found 1 MS70 Silver Eagle out of almost 19,000 graded. How many did NGC "find"? The Louisa Adams PCGS MS70 just sold for $1800 in auction on ebay last week. I can buy the same coin for $850 today on ebay in an NGC MS70. A presidential proof set 2007 all 4 in PR70 if PCGS $1499 if NGC $200 for the set of 4 PR70. I can go on like this forever. Get the PCGS graded 70 as it is released and realize greater profits within 6 months no matter what the coin is, PERIOD!!!! I do agree that listing my PCGS coins in the NGC registry is unfair to the ngc coins and cheapens my PCGS coins somewhat. At least on that level we do agree. That's why I mostly keep them seperate. Except for my spouse set which doesn't have the winning banners as I just found out NGC requires Photos and a silly comment to give you a hard earned and deserved win. I assure you they were properly honored by PCGS as is my PCGS ASE MS70 set that holds the #1 spot alone, since I do own the only PCGS 2007 ASE MS70 in existence. Nevertheless, enjoy the worlds number 1 hobby, I think there we can both reach an agreement.
