Gold, Gold, Gold!!!!

Here we go again!!! After much prodding from Caesar, we are embarking (heh heh) on another gold qwest. Our commem golds are complete in NGC PF-70, and we are down to one needed coin in $5.00 gold eagles. Working on $10 gold eagles, but will not go into the higher denominations due to cost. Way more gold Buffalos out there than expected, and old gold way out of our budget.

What other gold to collect Caesar asked? Well, I said, lets do the commem gold in MS-70 and see how we do!! Woof!! Woof!! was the reply!!!!

And so it begins. Our first coin in the new set is the 1987 Constitution in NGC MS-70. Won it last night on the old E-Bay.

This will be a very slow process, but Caesar just loves the gold, so.......

I will wait to add the set to my registry until the first coin arrives here and I have something to put in it!!!!! Fun, Fun!!!

The 1987 Constitution in NGC MS-70 arrived today. It is very nice!!! Needs the usual re-holdering into an edge-view, but.....

Now the issue-there is no registry set for MS modern commem gold.

There is a set for MS and PF, just no seperate MS set. I talked to Amy at NGC, and she suggested a signature set. I will look into that as a possibility. I do kind of want the points!!!!!! I could use my complete PF set again, but I believe you should count and use a coin in registry sets only one time. Ponder, ponder!!!!!!!

3-30-10 Well, after a long pondering period, Caesar said "Let's get going on our commem gold set." So, we decided to put together a set of commem goldies in MS and PF-70. NGC, of course. We have our first coin, described above. Since that purchase, we won a couple more. They are not here yet, so will add when they arrive. Going to put together a complete set. We will have to buy all the PF coins again, as we both really believe you should only get credit for a coin once in the registry. Fair is fair!!!!! This should be a fun trip-although it will be slow going due to the amount of coins and cost of some of them. Caesar says "Woof!"

4-1-10 Our second coin for this set arrived today! Love it!! It is the 86 Liberty, in NGC PF-70. Really nice example. Caesar loves it a lot. Took off with it and won't give it back!!!! I did manage to get it into our set!!! It will go in for the usual re-holdering thing. I will add scans when it returns. Hope Caesar brings it back so I can send it in!!!!

4-5-10 Two coins today! Helped make Monday a lot better!!! We added the 87 Constitution in PF and the 06 San Fran in MS to Caesar's set today. He was so excited to get two in one day! He barked and barked, and then proceeded to haul the wife's slippers out into the yard!!! So much for doing coins...... I did add both coins to our set, but scans will have to wait for the dreaded re-holdering!!!!! Comparing the two coins that arrived today, I must say I like the proof coins better than the MS ones. I like the glossy, bright, finish on the proofs. Caesar likes them, too. He prefers the shine as well. Four down, only 53 left to go!!!!!

4-19-10 We added the 89 Congress in MS-70 to our set today. It is very nice looking!!! We still prefer the proofs, but..... It is nice to be able to add coins to our set. Always a pleasure to work with coins, no matter what they are!!!!! This one will go in shortly for the usual re-holder job.

4-20-10 A coin a day.....Our 2006 Old Mint in PF-70 showed up today. Cool coin, nice example! Will need the usual..... Nice to add another one!! Long way to go, but the journey is awesome!!!!!

4-21-10 Boy, might as well camp out here! Our 84-W Olympic proof coin arrived today. It's a beaut, Clark!!! Nice, hard, strike, just awesome. Made our day! Caesar was very excited, as this baby is bigger than his other coins in the set. "Woof Woof Woof" he said. That means he likes it! I do too!!! Really like these $10 units. It will go in for the usual......

This coin a day program has to stop. That or I need a couple more jobs!!!

4-28-10 Our first three commems sent in for re-holdering came home yesterday. Boy, the coins sure look nice in the new style holders!!! I scanned them all in and added them to our set. I enjoy adding the scans in. We have a couple more in for re-holdering, will add them upon their return to us. Still hunting for more, pickins' are still slim-except for some over-priced units!!!!

5-11-10 Well, after a long dry spell, we added the 92 Olympics PF-70 to our set today. Finally, a new coin in the mail!!! A great day it is!!! The coin is very nice. It is in an old holder, so will go in for the usual in my next batch. May be a while, as cash is tight!!!! Nice to add something to this set. We have been looking for bargains, keep getting hammered on bidding!!!! Oh, well, makes the rare win and coin addition even more enjoyable!!!!!

5-13-10 Our 84 and 06 PF-70 goldies came home from NGC in their new Edge-View holders today. Nice, very nice!!! I got them scanned in already! The 06 looks good, the 84 not so hot. This winter I plan on re-doing some of the ugly scans to improve them. They will work for now, though. Happy weekend!!!

5-20-10 The 07 Jamestown in MS-70 showed up today. Nice coin, although I do like the proofs better!!!!! Oh, well, variety is nice, too!!! Coin looks great, paid a bit of a premium, but got another -001 cert. number, which I like. Added it to the set. I will send in next week or so for a new Edge-View holder. I will add a scan when it comes home!!!!!

6-15-10 After neglecting this set for awhile, we scored the 89 congress in PF-70. Nice to add for a change! The coin is awesome! Really a nice strike. One of the best I have seen. Caesar really likes it a lot. Good thing-it is his coin and he will do chores to pay for it!!!! We added it to our set, and then he took off to the kitchen where my better half is making dinner. A dog and his dinner are never too far apart!!! Anyhoo, fun to get a coin today! Always nice to come home from work and find something in the box!!! Will send in for re-holder and add scans when it returns!!! Happy Collecting!!!!

6-22-10 Three of our commem gold coins returned from NGC today, housed in their new Edge-View holders. The 89 Congress and 07 Jamestown in MS, and the 92 Olympics in PF. All three look great! Thanks NGC!!!! I did scan into our set, and they came out good. Great to mess around with these pups with out spending oodles of dollars!!!! We tried to add coins on Sunday night, we bid on 9 different gold commems-did not win a single one!!!!! We bid reasonable, but with gold fever going, folks were paying over $400.00 for common coins. Not going to pay that much. Last year when we put together our commem set in proofs, prices were a lot more down to earth. Oh well, what goes up will come down, and we shall be patient!!!!!

7-1-10 The 89 Congress PF-70 came back from NGC in a new edge-view holder yesterday. I was able to add the scans today for my registry set. Looks good!!!! Still no new additions-coins going too high and blowing my extra bucks on LGB trains lately. Will keep looking for bargains, though!!!!!!

7-12-10 We finally added a new coin to our set!!! The 2008 Bald Eagle in PF-70 arrived today. Really a nice rendition of this common goldie. Nice to add though, since it has been a long dry spell
