Check out my nice close-up of MS 64 Memorial cent
This is only my second year working with slabs. Grading above MS 60 remains a challenge for me. Grading manuals don't seem to help, either. The ANA manual is fantastic for below MS 60, but then pictures and descriptions in the UNC range are all vague ... and identical.
I don't know about you all, but I have a hard time comparing MS 64 cents with silver dollars. Identical descriptions in grading books don't mean identical grades in slabs, IMO.
Thanks to the galleries at the Collectors Society, I've been learning. But the galleries (in modern coins especially) skew toward the high-end. And telling MS 67 and 68 apart with a 120k photo is difficult or impossible. We need more pictures of worse coins!
So in my gallery are a few photos to help. In my Lincoln Memorial Cent collection, check out my 1973 S MS 64 and my 1962 MS 65.
The 1962 came from a mint set. Odds are long and raw coins are expensive going that route - I've since wandered into original bank wraps.
