Sometimes the playing field just seems so uneven.
Reading walnutto's recent journal activated my thinking gland. in some ways he said so much about some of our registry plights. I do feel for this collector, as I somethimes, well, all the time fight the same battle. However, as a past athlete, I have this urge to compete. No, I cannot compete with some of those guys dollar signs, nor could I ever. It would be the same though if all pcgs collector's had all NGC slabbed coins. It's their disposable dollar, not necessarly their type of slabs. On this registry, I have found a way, at times, to compete with everyone. rather than seeing that the glass is half empty, I see it as half full. For me to fill my glass, what I see I can work on. To use NGC slabs to my advantage. As well as Pcgs slabs. I collect both. Naturally prefering NGC, I have found that, with the sets that I collect, I can gain an advantage. My NGC slabs indicate "cameo" and "ultra cameo", where as pcgs does not. Remember though, this is with the sets that I collect. Canada PL coins, mostly. Now, when I need a slot filled with a top coin that I can not locate in an NGC slab, I shoot for a pcgs coin. I have many that could have a cameo or ultra cameo attributed to them from pcgs, but do not. You see, in what I collect, pcgs does not use these labels. This is where my advantage comes in. With a few of my number 1 sets, It has been the adittional labeling and point scoring that has either kept me on top, or given me that slight edge needed to get there. I have found this to work for me, although it still is a costly venture aquiring any top coin. I have been kicked out of top spots by NGC collectors as well as pcgs collectors. So I don't hold too much malace against them, I just keep on "truckin" and looking for another way to work on getting to that coveted top spot.
