Im usually not one to promote a coin in an auction, especially if i dont own it lol but for the collecting community at large i believe its worth a look...you may not get another chance!

Usually i wouldnt post a journal about an upcoming coin but after reviewing the preview to the upcoming Long Beach auction i came across something special.

The coin in question, the as Heritage described, "Near Mythic" 1849-C Open Wreath Gold Dollar. Now many of you may have never heard of this coin before and if so i recommend checking out the auction description. The total known population is a "tiny" four coins. The finest of which is a stunning MS63PL piece that was "found" in the Richmond Collection and crossed for $690,000in that sale(later trading hands privately for 1 Million+). The other three known examples include an AU58, F12(damaged and prob ex jewellry piece but slabbed either way) & the piece going to auction an XF45 example, the XF45 coin has never been pictured before in any auction catalog & before now was even considered "lost", so viewing this coin is a special occasion indeed...well thats if your into that kinda thing lol.

For myself i will be making a special trip to Long Beach just to be able to view this coin in person & for one lucky collector this will be a chance of a lifetime to own a historic coin, with only 13 appearances since 1944 the 1849c Open Wreath gold dollar is at the pinnacle of rarity within US numismatics.

If your in Long Beach for the show i recommend viewing the coin, even if little gold dollars arnt your thing, it will possibly be the only chance you will get in this lifetime to view one of these coins in person. Each of the other examples is locked away and not on public display and i believe this example will unfortunately go the same route.

Anyway to end, The Cherokee County Collection is slowly coming to completion! with the set 90% complete there arnt many coins remaining to locate. If i say so myself i believe The Cherokee County Collection is & will be the finest collection of Charlotte gold coins in the country! I am slowly updating each coins description etc and adding pedigree info so if you have a few spare moments check it out!.

Some really cool coins & pictures including the finest 1855-C type set ever formed! These coins will not be coming onto the market anytime soon & are picture perfect examples of their date so i decided to list them on the registry and website for everyone to see and use for research, the NGC Registry and RareCharlotteGold.com will be the only place to view these spectacular coins.

Have a great week & happy hunting
