Buy gold and silver now... 6 months later...

Shoulda, woulda, coulda...

Greetings Collectors (and investors)

I realize this is a numismatic site and not a stock/investor site but all of us here, for the most part are investors along with being coin collectors. If we knew that what we bought would go down in value more times than it went up, I dare to say there would be fewer of us here. Having said that my thoughts today are, again, for the most part, exactly the same as they were on my post of March 19th of this year.

Today, like that day in spring, gold is up big. Silver is up big. Oil then was in the forties with May contracts around $52. Now for several months its been around $70 with Dec. contracts well north of that. All commodities continue to climb. I am having a "moment" here today as I feel almost as good at calling the market of the last six+ months as I did yesterday when I guessed AU53 on our fellow collector, Dean Heards 1810 classic large cent. (I only wished we got to guess and then a few days later, it was revealed. Oh well) You have to understand that things like this do not happen often with me. I am wrong on so many things and make "bu-cu" mistakes on a regular basis. I think I have mentioned this before, but it seems worth mentioning again. The only thing I really know a good bit about is money. I don't know it all and maybe I don't know the half of it but I do study the markets/investments each and every day.

Back on 3/19/09 I stated to buy gold and silver now. That day gold was up $65. There were those that posted after me that maybe that was not sound advice. It was said that several months earlier when gold was in the mid $700's was the time. My comment now was the same then, none of us have a "crystal ball" and yes there are dips. Bottom line is that for every two steps back gold and silver have made, they have continued to take three steps forward. Today gold is up 18%+ from then and silver, even better with a 25%+ rise. What I am even more proud of, and mind you, I get to "toot my horn" so rarely, is the statment that the stock market in general, (in my opinion) had bottomed. If you want to look back, most stocks made their lows at almost exactly that time.

Anyway, give me a moment while I step down off my "high horse" as I just want to repeat that this rally in gold and silver is in its infancy. I think we will all be amazed and will look back and say, wow I remember when gold pushed through $1000 and for a brief time it was between $1000&$1100. "Sure wished I would have bought more". I think silver will actually on a percentage basis, do even better and it's alot cheaper. I do think that most of us could buy at least an ounce or two a week just by passing by "Star Bucks" every day on the way to work. The other expensive white metals will do ok but until the auto industry recovers, they will not do as well as gold and silver.

To close this subject, I just want to say again, "this ride is only just beginning".

As most of you that know me already realize, I really like the Franklin and Walker halves, in that order. I am going to start a small set of posts detailing some neat tidbits of info that those of you who like those big silver coins minted between 1948 & 1963 will find interesting. At least I hope you do. In fact, what I want to share about proof coinage in general from 1950-1970 will interest all who collect proof coins during that time frame. There are so many coins and sets and all of us have our favorites. The only ones I have a fair amount of knowledge in are the Franklin halves, MS and proof. Followed by the pre 1933 gold liberties to a much lesser degree. I want to say again that I do love this little community we share here and I have learned and am continuing to learn so much from the rest of you. Keep up the good work! Happy Collecting to all of you. WKF
