quality control faulty

blind graders

Scratched nicked and cleaned coins gradedWell I guess I have heard everything now, members are now complaining the their coins are being graded to high. To me it is just more proof that modern coins are not worth owning. When you get 2009 proof coins that are marked up it reflects on the US mint quality. For example one of my 2009 proof lincoln cents was so ugly it had a finger print and some kind of smear on it. This is the second year in a row I have had to return a proof set for poor quality. In 2008 it was one of the Dollar coins that was damaged. I will not be buying any more proof sets from the mint. I have had a few small problems with a couple of graded coins one came back mislabled it somehow got labeled $1 silver when it was in fact $5 gold, but NGC corrected the problem at no charge and was very nice about the whole thing. As far as comparing NGC with PCGS goes some of the PCGS coins seem to be way over priced and most of these seem to be in the modern coin catogories examples are Modern Commemitives both MS and Proof, silver or gold, American Gold Eagles especially the proof coins also the Presidential Proofs. Where as the IHP's and Lincoln Wheat Cents seem to be pretty close in price. At the present time I am finding some real bargins in the small cents in both holders. I picked up a very nice MS67 1942s Mercury Dime for my short set I hope it is as nice in person as the pictue. I won it in a Sunday nigth Teletrade auction. With the new IHPs and the 42s I will be adding picture to my galleries again pretty soon.See you on the flip side Later JimL4004
