is now the time?
when is a good time to buy the best....
I have been around to watch the coin market to cycle up and down a couple of times. So my question is this, is now the time to buy key date coins?
I think now is the time to buy these rarely seen coins! Some coins do not just appear week in and week out. So when you see a 1909-s VDB in an old green PCGS holder, you buy it. I am not saying you will not see another one, but see an older holder coin which is on the higher end of the grade and color given. No, not to often.
Talking with other coin collectors and some dealers, you find out why there is a difference in some coins.
Older holders are thought to be better graded and more likely to crossover and up-grade then newly graded slab.
Also the standard may be under attack, by the shear demand of the general public to provide top level coins. I have looked at some very expensive full red coins in the Lincoln series, and in my little humble opinion, older slabbed coins are better!
If and I say if, the standard for a full red coin in MS-67 coin's, is changing, then what will happen to the industry? Will dealers and collectors just start buying all the older holders, and send these coins in to be re-graded? Will the coin industry suffer a sudden quick drop in over all value? Will collectors who are spending large sums for condition rare coins, become upset over falling values?
