Horrible experience with local coin store

Well i thought i would take in a few coins just to see what they would offer...save myself some ebay fee's i thought...well what an experience that was!

After paying another feebay invoice i decided to see what my local coin shop would offer for some NGC slabbed gold coins.

Now i have seen this shop advertise on TV in my area and they proclaimed to be the "highest payer for gold & silver coins"

Well what an experience, i had a number of fairly nice coins with me, a couple of ms63 half eagles(1906d for example) these were really nice coins and PQ in my opinion, a couple of type 2 double eagles MS61 and a condition census charlotte quarter eagle plus a couple of others...the charlotte was low on the census but i just wanted to see what they would offer(now if you check my sets you know i know my charlotte coins better then any others i own)

In total i had 7 coins of various grades, some branch mint gold with very nice original skin etc etc

The final offer from this coin shop after saying of course(what horrible coins) was exactly one grade under every grade that NGC had certified them to be,one grade you would think isnt a big deal...but alas that one grade for a ms63 half eagle means the difference between $900 and $300....so all in all they tried to rip me off blind...i really could not believe it, i even asked for the explanation on why they thought every coin was overgraded by one exact point...his answer....luster & the fact that he believes the coins were graded "for a friend" and NGC overgraded on purpose(i wish!)?? i really couldnt believe it when in front of him was an original untouched mint state charlotte coin and a lovely circulated carson city half eagle with original skin.

I laughed a bit and walked out after trying to explain to the owner that i indeed knew what i had and what the value of these coins were.

So for Derzon Coins in Milwaukee WI, i feel ashamed that you are indeed part of our community, having been in business for 25 years i do believe if you continue to rip customers off like this you def will not be in business for 25 more.

Now i usually wouldnt name and shame a company on here but this person had the gaul to say that i must have had a friend at NGC who overgraded the coins for me! and thats why they were all a grade higher then what he said! (fact: i do not know anyone at NGC)

i know grading is an art not a science but to me thats pretty rude....not to mention that his shop Derzon Coins is an NGC authorized outlet....why NGC would want a company that thinks they have graders over grading coins for friends representing there business i would never know....maybe a hint for NGC to investigate?

Anyway thats my rant for today, keep safe and happy collecting & for those that are interested i have added pictures & descriptions of the 1855c type set on my website rarecharlottegold, the finest 1855c type set ever formed!

Below is the latest acquisition MS63 Charlotte condition census piece
