Getting back to my "Numismatic roots" for/with a little change...

Greetings Collectors,

I have been "caught up", "addicted", "obsessed" and "chained" in a "tunnel vision" sort of way, for quite some time, buying slabbed coins in order to further my sets and my rankings here at the "registry". The "monkey" on my sholder has worn a callous from his constant "tapping" to buy this or bid on that. I am sure that most of you can relate to the excitment of taking part in an auction or picking that certain coin up at a show and then after you have held the coin in your hands, donned on the proverbial "optivisor" or your favorite magnifier and looked and re-looked at that coin and then entered it into its pre-ordained slot in your set. Then you check as to where that certain addition puts you in the rankings and then after that... depression sets in. (I just flashed back to that Bill Murray movie "Stripes" that I watched for the upteenth time the other night) The feeling wells up inside of you to set your sights on the next big game you seek to slay. For me it continues to be this same torid circle. I am starting to feel as "weary" as my wallet. Having said all that I think I have found a relief valve, which may be only temporary, but a relief valve none the less.

Now for me personally, the undisputed "coin whore" of N.E. Fl. I have possibly discovered an "outlet". It's funny 'cause it has been right here under my loupe all along. I have delved back into coin collecting, doing what I did when I first started out. I went out yesterday and bought a "pile" of "Littleton" green coin alblums. I also broke into a "lead sealed" bag of Morgan dollars and another sealed 1/2 bag of silver quarters, along with a small hoard of "wheaties". I also went to the bank and got all my raw Walker and Barber halves. This my friends will take up my holiday weekend and then some. I can not begin to tell you the fun I have had today. I have not had a "numismatic high" like this for as long as I can remember and all it took was getting back to my "roots" and to the kind of coin collecting that got me hooked in the first place.

No '32-D or S quarters yet and no '09-S VDB's but I have found a close to fine 38-D Walker and a well worn 1883 CC Morgan. Everything else has been common but there are a pile of common holes to fill and the weekend has only just begun. Also it is only fitting that the "Wizard of Oz" was on tonight and I caught the tail end in the background when "realization" came that next time I need to go searching, I will try looking right here in "my own back yard".

Here's wishing a safe holiday weekend for all of you. As for me, I am staying home having "fun" with some coins. Happy Collecting! WKF
