In ( fill in blank) We Trust
I can't help wonder exactly why this phrase "In God We Trust" has been such an issue on our (American) monies.
Greetings!
I have been having a pretty good spring, just started summer semester and my college classes have me busy writing a load of essays and discussions so I have been checking in here, but not really able to participate as much as I would like lately.
So, I was admiring the newest Prezzies, and noticed that the "motto" has been moved from the edge to the front. I know this was the subject of controversy when the Prezzies first appeared and if we look at history, the appearance (or non-appearance) of the "motto" seems to be as old as some of our monies itself.
I can't help but ask myself exactly what difference it makes whether the motto is on the money or not. I mean I am sure not every citizen in the United States trusts in "God" and what "God" is it that we trust in anyway? I am not trying to invoke any rebuke or anger here, but I think we have to ask ourselves how much this really matters. Is this not a personal issue?
If I believe in hinduism and carry the currency, should it not say "in gods I trust"?
On a personal note, I don't worship the same god as many people in the mainstream do as I have a gnostic ideology. So every time I see the motto, it represents to me the diversity of thought and ideas this country harbors.
I don't think it matters if the motto exists at all, or on the front, back or edge of the monies.
My god loves us all no matter what.
Have a great day, nice to see everyone here still participating. I love everyones posts!!
