My start with coins
At one time Buffalo nickels were plentiful.
My start with coin collecting was due to being paid in coins as a paperboy. At that time the weekly subscription price was less than a dollar so, when people did pay, I would come home with a pocket full of coins. I don't remember who gave me the blue coin folders to start collecting the various pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters but each time I could fill an empty slot gave me a sense of accomplishment and pride. I remember looking at many early 20th century coins and even some pennies in the late 1800's. Buffalo nickels were plentiful and unique, although now I understand why. A tribute was being paid to the Indian who roamed from East to West. Looking very different on the face of the coin than George Washington and President Lincoln. That Indian image still fascinates me.
